Sunset at Badwater

It was my last night in DV, and last chance to get colors of the sunset in contrast to the monochrome grey of the salty Badwater Basin. I tried in LR to enhance the colors of the clouds but this toned the salt blue.

I love everything I've seen you post here, Raied, as I think you probably know. This one affects me the most of them all, and I'm just trying to articulate why....

The pattern, the geometry, and the immediacy and sharpness of the simi-circular form in the foreground grabs my eye.
Then there is the repitition and with that the realization that this is some sea long since dried up, the bluish shade appropriate to that history. And then the lines lead into the distant hills and mountains, and they lead into the sky and rising or setting sun.

And then, perhaps informed from remembering some of your other work, there is like this wave that comes back from the mountains, across the hills, across the salt flats back to ... me, the viewer. So in that sense this reminds me of the intent of that image you took where the foreground was out of focus, and how that was intended to be the perspective of someone dying of thirst..

Knowing that about your work, I very much am aware of myself in the frame of this image; that is, the images seems to make me feel part of it.

Hi Raied: got your message...yes, I was at this location on the same evening! Were you with that photography workshop? Wish I would have known there was another NPNer there. We could have chatted. Anyways, to answer your question, my image 'Desert Chill' was not taken at this location. I took that at the bad water basin, after walking into the basin about a mile. The edges of the basin were muddy and didn't have any salt flats, but the center was covered in brilliant white flats.

Regarding your posted image, I like the perspective you captured. A very realistic rendition, as I remember the scene looking exactly like this. We didn't have the best light to work with that evening, but you certainly did a nice job with this image.

Love the low pov and comp. :wavey:
Well seen and captured. Maybe a little less sky and you got it. :toast:

I really like the perspective. Great lines, patterns and textures. It seems to be a bit soft in the distant
