Red-shouldered Hawk

First time in south Florida and around the Everglades, but I only had a few hours one day to get out and bird (work seems to get in the way of birding a lot). I see they're not exaggerating when they say how cooperative Florida birds can be! Any raptor in South Dakota would have flown far before I got this close.

Canon 50D, 400 5.6L, ISO 800, 1/250, f6.3.

There's some great detail in here. On my work monitor (uncalibrated) it does look as though the area around the eye could do with lightening a bit.

Very nice shot of my favorite hawk. When I tried to look at the larger post I accidentally hit purchase print and went to your website. Looks like 12/10/12 was a very good hawk day for you.

Indeed it was!! I had no photos of the species until December 10th, and in a short afternoon of birding, got more than my fair share!!

Very nice detail on the large image and I like the open beak, way to go.

Very nice, Terry. Neat setting, wonderful look at the bird. The open beak adds to an already very strong image. I'm fine with the eye as presented.

Great Red-shouldered image. I like the color, sharpness and the setting. I was at the end of the road in the everglades in Flamingo and got this close with a 300mm lens. I am like you I kind of took me aback because where I was living at the time I would never have gotten this close. It was like they enjoy getting their pictures taken and like to pose.
