Rainday Lilypads #2

by Mark Seaver

Gallery: Macro & Close-upPosted December 13, 2012484 views10 comments
Here's another image from a session last Sunday photographing the lily pads in my backyard pond on a cloudy day after a shower. This is a 6 shot stack taken with the polarizer rotated to maximize the reflections. The result is a low contrast RAW file, so I boosted the contrast in ACR. Post processing included a TK's triple play and some luminosity painting. (5D3, 70-200mm f2.8 @ 173mm + 20mm ET for close focusing, 1/4s, f/11, iso 200, tripod and cable release)

Outstanding, Mark. I like this even more than the one you posted in the landscape gallery. The colors are richer and the waterdops on the center lily pad even more defined. The reflection of the tree in the center drop is also a great element. Actually, although you said it was a cloudy day, it looks like there's a reflection of a sunset in the drop in the center. Anyway, I like the look of this one a lot. :toast:

Scott, the "sunset" in the drop is the colors in the center of the lily pad coming through the water.

Mark,
My kind of shot. Love the simplicity, colour and the tiny landscape in the bubble. :toast:

Incredible colors & lighting here & I love the repetition of the tree in the droplets. For some reason I feel like everything is sliding down to the lower right...almost like it needs to be straightened...but I wouldn't want to lose any of the composition & colors!

I love it!! Looks can be decieving...looks like a sunset, but it's not. I need to get my "gels" back out and play (the gels I have are actually colored transparent folders - you put reports or such in to keep them safe - but it works). Thanks for all the comments
