I really do appreciate all the comments and thoughts about these images. Am I losing steam yet? Hope not, still a ways to go.

This will be the 2nd of 5, maybe 6 grass images and this one is my second to least favorite, so I think I have some better ones yet to come.

I don't normally like to lead you guys in to thinking or seeing something in an image, but I wanted to mention the subtle thing that appealed to me in this image. And that is the subtle "zig-zag" of tones and light that kind of take the eye through the scene; even though there isn't really a resting place for the eye.

Very curious to hear your reactions. All honest opinions welcome.

Thanks!

More grass? You smoking the stuff now??

I like this image a lot, Lon. Great combo of color and detail. This needs be viewed on the large version. It would be nice if it could be seen even bigger to get more detail.

Wow! I love this one. Wonderful comp, pleasing warm color and the light is beautiful. Amazing textures and detail especially seen in your larger version! I really enjoy the feel of this image. Beautiful work Lon.

I like the variation in tones and color as well as texture. It doesn't grab me like some of the others, but still a fine image.

Morris' critique is pretty much mine. I do see the "eye path", especially in the large version. The texture is intricate and the color is subtle. I have to say this is a photographer's photo. In a parallel sense, it's like Mozart's comment about the need for a loud bang so the listener would know the piece had ended. There's no loud bang here, just a plethora of grace notes to please the discerning eye.

I like Philip's take on this. I struggle with making photos like this. You make it look easy. I like all the subtle variations in color and luminosity. I saw the zig-zag right away and it did lead my eye nicely through the grass. If this is not your best, then I am really interested to see your best one.

The zig-zag doesn't strike me so much as the variation across the frame. The larger version is better for this. At times there is detail and sometimes just tone. It works quite nicely.

I like that this lacks a sense of place, that it isn't easily identified with something otherwise recognizable. It's a slice of life in the wild, or maybe not. The photographic qualities are done quite well, the texture and detail, soft color and subtle tone variations. I agree with Phil, it's a photographers image, not likely to wind up on a postcard, but that's a really good thing.

One could spend a great deal of time gazing upon all the micro details in this image. I would think this needs to be really large in order to be appreciated, and for all that detail to be seen. The many shades of the single tonality is very soothing to the eye. Could be ideal in a doctor's office.

Thanks for the response and comments so far.

Phil - I just have to call you out on your comments - thank you! What an insightful and thoughtful comment. A "photographer's photo," I think a term we can all relate to, and I totally get that with this image. And the Mozart reference, classic, I love that, and true to this image as well. Great comment, thanks!

I noticed the zigzag right away! That makes the image IMO. Beautiful tones!

I don't really see the zigzag as being an obvious point bit enjoy the diminishing view of the grass, sort of like a vanishing point. I don't think that it has the staying power off my of your images but I'm happy to enjoy its simple beauty in the here and now.

My honest opinion is that I like this very much, Lon. It may not be a wow photograph, but the textures and tones keep the viewer occupied as they lead you through the grasses. Wonderful eye to capture this understated scene.

Lon, I really like this. The color is beautiful and you have some great details here. To fully apreciate this image it has to be viewed large. Such scenes are very hard to compose but in my opinion you did a pretty good job here.

Beautiful color, but I'm finding the image itself a little stagnant. I find the FG much more interesting than the BG although I do like the strip of color in the BG. For my tastes, given the contrast within the image, I think I would prefer this in B&W.

Lon, the subtlety culminating in this image makes it most valuable for me. The complexity of your composition keeps me exploring it in depth. Thanks for sharing.

Lon, looks like you caught this in some nice light and better yet low or no wind. This has an extremely natural look to it and would have most peering around the scene looking for some kind of item beyond the tall grass itself. But, I'm sure it will hold a strong contingent of viewers strictly on the wonderful view and the calmness of nature's golden harvest here, including me. I could see this one as a nice large print providing some excellent viewing time.

Hi Lon, this must be my favourite of your grass images so far, and perhaps another favourite in this recent series. I like the wider view and the warmer light compared to the other frame filling grass image you posted a while ago. I also like the many fine details. I think this is very strong, it grabs me immediatly, I don't even have to try to like it. Great LF shot all around.
