This image was taken while canoeing the recently opened Lake Naconiche, near Nacogdoches,TX. This male Pileated woodpecker was so busy, he didn't pay much attention to me as I got closer and closer. I finally got so close I couldn't get the entire bird in the viewfinder. I was hand holding a Canon 7D with 400mm f2.8 lens and 2X teleconverter. This shot was my best for the day.

Nice shot Gary,
I think you could bring your levels up a bit without hurting the image.

thanks Gary, Did you mean exposure level or color saturation ? I'll give it a try as see what happens.

Fine shot of an elusive woodpecker.
The re-worked image is great -
Looks as if he/she is getting a nesting hole ready - while much of the rest of the country is deep in snow!
