Is there another place in the world with black dunes? Please tell me if yes, because I would travel there for sure! The image was made in Iceland.

Visually interesting; lots of dark in the lower portion, but in terms of attribution of meaning, in my mind it is about the ultimate fate of the proudest mountain.

The black sand is really neat, but it's the grasses that make this picture special.

Black dunes. What the world doesn't come up with. Really love this with the contrasting bunches of grass atop the dune further in. Compositionally, I wonder if less sky would put more emphasis on the more interesting elements in the scene.

Wonderful contrasting colors in this scene, Rainer. Looks like it could be an exciting place to explore too.

Great image. The shadows work really well with the very nice light and the dunes lead the eye right into the image.

I can see why you would want to return to this location. Very impressive image I like how the brush stands out against the black sand.

Gorgeous evening light and a superb composition. I spent quite a lot of time there in September and the little touch of snow in your images adds a beautiful dimension to this image. Very fine work...

Excellent composition and subject, Rainer. I like the steely feel of this with the desaturation of colors.

Wonderful and unique landscape you captured Rainer! That black sand adds some really nice color contrast to the scene. I agree with Rick about a little less sky, but it's fine as is. Well done!

Rainer, This is really interesting to see...and very nice! Love the looks of the black dunes with the golden grass, especially in this nice light. The mountains make a great looking background here. Wonderful image! :toast:

Gorgeous I have yet to visit Iceland but it will undoubtedly happen. This is much more my cup of Earl Grey than the usual icelandic iceberg shots undeniably beautiful though they are. The black sand is stunnin with those yellow grasses growing through them.

Rich color and deep blacks Rainier. I like this a lot and as others have said, a very different view of the Icelandic landscape.

Really like the contrasts here between the sand and the grasses. Very nice detail. I might suggest a slight crop from the top, but its minor..great capture!

Unique image. Black to yellow with the darker blue sky above makes for the very interesting color contrast and combination. These black sand dunes alone make me want to travel to Iceland.
