Elk Courting

This young male, maybe trying to compensate for his lack of an impressive rack, had just went down to the creek and jumped in, hoping some good hygiene might help with the ladies. He climbed out and started calling, but the ladies were less than impressed. Any critiques would be greatly appreciated

Canon 5D II, 70-200 @175mm, f2.8, 1/1600sec, ISO 400, about a 50% crop.

Very nice use of a simplified color palette. A large view would better show off all the texture and detail.

It can be difficult to get late season elk against a pleasing background, but here I agree with Gary that the sense is of a simplified color palette and study in texture. I would have liked to see larger for detail. Exposure looks very good and you have a good catchlight in the eye.
