This was a day of first's for me. This was my first attempt at an orchid, and my first attempt at high key. I lit this with a studio flash and soft box 3" behind the flower and the same behind me. The rear was set at 1/2 power, the other at 3/4 for this shot.
D80, 50mm 1.8, ISO 100, f8 @ 1/5 sec, tripod.
All comments and critique sought. Thanks
Bob :wavey:

Really nice work, Bob. Excellent studio shot. Only nit: I'd put a frame around the image (or post it with a dark NPN bg) because, as it is, your high-key bg blends right in with the NPN bg. Again, nice work.

Bob: 99% of the time I think I would echo Scott regarding the frame and still might. On the larger version where the site BG provides a border this seems to have a little less mystery than the normal post. If this was mine I would put a one or at most two pixel stroke the color of the purple in the centers around it. As for your high key and lighting, I think you did really well. I'm impressed. Really fine photography and I'm looking forward to more. >=))>

Hi Robert, personally I'm not a fan of high-key images so I find it difficult to comment on them, but that aside, this is very well done.

I think I need some kind of demarcation/frame for this Robert but other than that I love it. Beautifully done.

I not a big fan of high-key but I love the effect it gives these orchids! I like how the magenta flower centers just grab your interest. The whitish part of the orchids provide a nice bridge between the vivid centers and the white background. Nice arching comp of the orchids. Pleasing image but possibly a subtle frame such as Bill suggests may be helpful?

I really like the comp of the arrangement with it's gentle curve. Beautiful high-key image!
