missing lens cap
by John Clulow
OK, so, last April, I had just received my new Tamron 17-50mm lens. And I was taking some stupid pictures in our kitchen, and then I realized I couldn't find the lens cap.
So me and the wife turned the house upside down and we couldn't find it.
OK, so then this is what happened. I go to bed and about 3 am I am awoken by this low, humming sound. So I get up and walk out into the kitchen area, and I see this bright light pouring into the patio windows. So I get my camera ready and go out on the deck and I take this picture at 17mm 30s exposure and ISO 200 with my K-5 (which is comparable to a D7000, only better).
This was one of those "capture the moment" moments for me. I'll be interested in your thoughts as to how I could improve on my technique should this sequence of events every repeat itself in the future.

And so I did take that with an extended exposure at a restricted aperture and it made kind of like a light "spew" onto the ground behind the trees behind the field that lies behind our deck.
So the thing about the lens cap came about in our kitchen; that part was true as well; when I was photographing an onion skin as an abastract, and I used the lens cap to sit it on. Then after that, I went searching for the lens cap and my wife, Carol, said, "You frickin' idiot!! It's sitting right there on the kitchen counter!!"
I think she thinks I am getting that memory disease where you can't remember things, I can't remember what you call it, but I think she has it. Anyway, that's another story.
So something made me decide to go off on this whole thing about missing lens caps, and I wound up making this image. It's not real; I photoshopped it. I cannot tell a lie.
well done and very creative.
