This is the only half-way decent bird picture I ever took or probably ever will: Sometimes one has to try to do something and have a mediocre result in order to have some level of appreciation for the higher levels one sees in others work. This isn't my cup of tea, but I'm glad I did it just for that reason.

Pentax K100D Super, Sigma 70-300 at 300 mm, 1/160s, f/11, ISO 200 (lowest for this camera body), in mid January five years ago. Never really tried again after this effort.

My hat is off to the truely great work I see on this forum !! I appreciate it and love it.

Since this is an area I've decided not to pursue, critique would fall upon deaf ears, I'm afraid.

Then I'll critique for the benefit of other viewers.

Interesting posture; good background; good exposure for the black plumage.

The out-of-focus leaves at the bottom of the frame are a distraction - mostly due to them being lighter than the background green and cut off at the frame edge. The obviously cut end of the perch detracts as well. The image is also over sharpened for this size presentation.

This isn't bad for only 300mm. You could do more like this with that short of an optic if you spent the time to improve a backyard setup.

Thanks Richard. Now that you mention the leaves, I remember thinking about that issue back when I did this.
We maintain feeders all year, maybe after I retire, I'll give this another try. Meanwhile, I'll look forward to the great images here on the avian forum.
