Tufa Sunset at Mono Lake

Back in October I spent a week in the Eastern Sierra. Those of you who live nearby have a gorgeous area to photograph.

I made this the first night I was there down at the South Tufa area.

Comments welcome.

Interesting landscape for sure, Tom, id love to get back there. This is pretty nice--i have 2 comments/suggestions. It looks a bit blurry, especially the middle section and im not sure why without knowing more about the specs and pp here. Also the bottom section is really not adding much here, just bare ground, so id crop it out. Some nice formations and subtle color though. :wavey:

Thanks Stan. I noticed what you're talking about with the blurring. The photo is sharp however this is a link from my website, not sure what is happening there. Maybe I should post the XL version for the larger size.

I wasn't sure on the foreground, I did go back and forth on cropping it out or not but I liked the line that carried up to the tufa stack on the right.

Tom,

Sorry for not commenting on this sooner. I think this is a nice take away from Mono Lake. The soft pastel colors of both the tufa and the sky are accurate to my memory (haven't been to S.Tufa in a number of years now - too many people!) Anyway, I would agree with Stan about the foreground; just not much there that adds to the overall composition. I've also found that this is a difficult place for vertical comps - what I mean is that it's very easy to want to do them because of the height of the tufa, but unless you have the right combo of tall formations, you end up with a lot of empty sky too. Very tough place to compose images.

But I think the color and soft light are a real plus and it makes for an enjoyable image from Mono. The large version on Smug looks good too as far as sharpness and detail.
