This summer I took some exta time off while on a business trip to the Northwest Ohio area, and I went to photograph the Marblehead lighthouse very early one morning. Just after I got there, still dark, someone else drove in.

Turned out to be John, who is retired and taking care of the park there. I had just then been reading the free e-books by Thomas Leuthard on street photography, so I put my 40 mm Pentax f/2.8 pancake lens on my K-5 and after asking John's permission, I took this image of him. We talked about his family and how he felt about working there.

So I think it probably fits here on this forum. Sometime I'll post the lighthouse picture that early morning.

I am not much into portraits, but I like this one a lot. This image seems to capture the character of the subject's life. It is very expressive and alive. Excellent work!!

Thanks, Harley.

This guy really impressed me; he was in his 80's and we had a nice conversation about retirement, his kids, grand kids, and so on, and sometime (soon) I'd like to return there and give him a print of the lighthouse image I captured that morning before he arrived. We'll see what happens.... but definitely on my agenda after I retire in March.

Thanks for your comment. It's a doggy-dog world.

I rarely photograph people but I enjoy other people's images when they are well done. This captures a bit of the character of this character. I might back off a hair on the sharpening for web presentation.

A fine portrait that shows a face with many stories.
