Estranged Sun
by Justin Richardson
I made many exposures around this area before, at, and after sunset. This was taken about 20 mins after the sun had passed below the background mountain...just loved the delicate colors the beautiful sky was reflecting off of the water. There was no post processing of this capture except for a little sharpening.

Thanks!

9 commentsYou have this great contrast between the R G and B that resolves into almost a rainbow-like pastel effect.
Although the upper whiteish shore line is probably perfectly a flat horizon, the rising hills/ mountains toward the right make one wonder about the levelness of it, and that's a good thing in that it creates some tension that the mind has to deal with and resolve.
Rewind to the first thing that hits the viewer in the submersed trees, and their reflections, reaching upward toward the light, now fading.
The rising line of the of the hills in the background going from left to right is mimicked by the pattern of the brush in the foreground.
So taken all together, this is really an outstanding image, I think, that could perhaps benefit from a thin black stroke frame; definitely not the inch-wide black frame, though. Just so thin it isn't noticed.
The more I look at this, the more I like it.
John, what can i say..i like contradiction
When I first looked at this I was going to suggest a crop of 1/8 frame from the bottom...then I looked some more and said...no It's all good...then my mind flirted with the crop idea again... either way...1/8 for balance is a small nit.
Well seen.
As I always say, simple is almost always good. And this is a great example. Simple colors, design and scene. Quiet and lovely, not much to critique other than the perceived or real curvature of the water horizon.
The texture in the mater between the bushes and far mountain make a big difference too. Well done.

You were there so you know best what the sky and light and while I love the soft simple composition, I feel it is a bit too dim.
