Sol Duc Spring

Old-growth forest, subalpine lakes, and snowy peaks populate the Sol Duc landscape. Small creeks and streams such as the one shown here, feed the Sol Duc River which serves as a key highway for coho salmon, running through the valley and ascending to the lakes and headwaters in the surrounding mountains.

I had only seconds to capture the sunlight on the falls as the beams danced through the forest just after sunrise.

Thanks for your comments!

Drew, the light is gorgeous, you caught a beautiful glow on the moss, yup, I'm sure this light show didn't last long. Love it.

Very cool and great light. Might take a bit off the top as the ULC is unnecessary. Nice catch!

Drew,

Beautiful and intimate image of light. what a great moment and you've caught it just right and in time.

I might go along with a crop from the top, at least to remove the reddish log intruding in the ULC. I would also recommend a equal crop from the bottom getting rid of the little knob and very bottom slice of white water. I think the resulting format/ratio will suit the scene well.

Just my opinion, but for me, the greens are a bit on the neon side to me. Yeah, I know the greens in the PNW are killer.... actually just the neon green at the top and the bottom rocks. The moss in the middle with the light and cascades looks pretty good actually.

You've got a great setup here. A couple tweaks and this will be killer.

I love the light across the falls and also how it makes the moss glow. This is a beautiful scene and I quite enjoy the feel. I too can see a crop off the top just to the bottom of the black area and the red log in the in the ulc and still staying above the falls.

A very crisp, clean image. The spotlighting sunshine adds a nice punch to the scene. The only detractions have been mentioned already. Very well done.

Drew, this is splendid. Great job of taking advantage of the light and the moment. Slow shutter speed looks right and the water isn't washed out from the long exposure. It has a very peaceful feel to it. Love the moss color, too. I also would like to see what it looks like with the top cropped a bit. Otherwise, very nice.
