Fall in Salado

This is a shot from last weekend at a local creek i like to get out and enjoy from time to time. After a four hour hike, i came upon this familiar spot, and decided to focus on the rolling water around the many boulders in the area. I stood in the 42 degree water for over twenty minutes trying different comps..talk about cold feet! I had no idea if my toes were there or not when i stepped back onto the bank! This was my favorite of the shots that i got. Thanks in advance for comments and critique!

I love the depth this relaxing scene holds. My eye jumps from rock to rock, moving back into the colorful forests. The arches created by the bent trees make a nice tunnel over the creek. I like this a lot.

Justin, This looks really nice, and what a great feel it has. The background has some wonderful color and is also quite inviting with the arch leading you in. I also like this with a crop just above the rock that is close to the left edge about 1/3 up from the bottom. That is just another thought I had while looking at this because I like it as you have it here too! :toast:

Keeping texture in this kind of sheen can be hard, but you did it. It makes for some surprisingly well-balanced light.

Justin,

Well, at some point it was going to happen... I don't think this is as strong or impactfull as your first two images. Now that isn't to say that this image isn't a good one, I just liked the others better. Of course it might help if I said why. I do like the composition quit a lot and like how you've crafted a nearly 2/3-1/3 composition, making the river, flow and reflected light your main subject. To me anyway, the lower 1/3 of the river has a dreamy look with muted, silvery reflected light and almost fog-like shadows. Dare I say a glow? You don't mention anything special in your processing (and it doesn't matter really,) but at least for one person, the glow or fog in the rocks and water at the bottom of the screen doesn't seem to go with the rest of the scene.

Not sure how else to explain it. But for sure, don't let one person's opinion sway you from enjoying your own work!

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

Lon-I had the same problem with the image...this was a very shaded area, except for that one spot in the creek. The longer exposure time really accentuated it. I didn't realize how badly until i pulled it up in processing. I decided at that point to sandwich this with a blur, to create a "dreamier" feeling to the background. Here is the original for comparison..

Justin,

Thanks for the respost. Judging from your original, you did great job in recovery and you certainly improved the image. Hope you don't think I was being too harsh!
