Gallery: POP PhotosPosted November 19, 2012209 views10 comments
My first post in PopPhoto! And a post outside of Landscape for the first time in I don't know how long!

I'm not sure what possessed me to spend nearly $5 to take this picture... I might as well show it to someone. ;-)

I thought about having folks guess where this might be, but then I thought nah, I'll just tell you. I've always wanted to stop along this stretch of Hw 58 east of Barstow. there's a town called Ludlow that is mostly abandoned, although there's an active restaurant and gas station there. Anyway, this was back in June, about 10 in the morning and already over 100 deg. Did I mention why did I photograph this?

Anyway, I guess fitting for this gallery. Every once in a while we step out of the box for something different.

thanks for taking a look!

4x5 and stuff,

Lon

My first thought was this might be from the Salton Sea area. I call these sorts of images "skeletons," and look for them a lot myself. A collection of them could be compelling.

I like the mood of this Lon and I particularly like the gradient.

Lon, I'm proud of you for using the LF rig on something like this. That took guts! A real sign of the times....

And welcome over here. It's a much more fun place.

Lon,

I love this shot. For me, real photography, the creative stuff, is all about stepping out of the box and this image has it in spades.

Thanks guys!

I guess a little out of the box Jim. I just don't know what the hell I'm going to do with it.

I'll probably be more on the look out now.

Interesting, Lon, and very observant of you. Some thoughts that come to mind are
"isolation", "no wheresville", and of course "ghosttown".

This is excellent, Lon!! Right up my alley. I love this kind of stuff and this is done quite well. I guess there is MORE to (photography) life than Yosemite trees!

This is excellent. It doesn't need anything more.

I really like this Lon. It might even be a good seller in some markets. It's whimsical and thought provoking - the arrow makes it!. Great craftsmanship too.
