After helping out with a 4 day workshop in Zion Canyon last week I got the opportunity to hit the Narrows during incredibly low water levels and flow rate, making the hike very easy compared to last year's 'workout.' For most of the morning we had the place to ourselves which was quite a relief from the heavy visitation in the park due to the holiday weekend.

I also shot this in a horizontal perspective utilizing a lot of negative space along the upper left wall (for use for an upcoming project) but the vertical perspective is much stronger throughout.

Cheers,

Peyton

A classic! Considering that you deliberately wanted the negative space, I'd still suggest a slight shadows adjustment to bring out a little more detail.

Thanks for the feedback Jim - I'll play around with the file and work to pull more detail out of the walls.

Beautiful light, late am? Please post horizontal version as well, I had a tough time last year coming up with a pleasing comp.

Nice. Love what you did with the water.

Here's the horizontal Todd, which I've made similar tweaks to the glow in the horizontal that you see here in this version. I hope this perspective is what you were looking for!

Beautiful, Peyton. The foreground water is beautifully rendered, and the reflected light is nice as well. I prefer the original vertical version.

I like the water pattern. It seems you've tried to tame the highlights in the background, but it still looks a little hot.

Peyton,

Somewhere I think we've seen this before? But always a pleasure to see these, especially for those of us who have never been and experienced the Narrows.

Great job handling the extreme light and tonal range. You've got just enough detail in the shadows to keep folks from me complaining about shadow detail... ;-) I like your compositional balance between the water/stream, the walls and the light down at the end of the canyon. Nice job!

FYI - your purchase print link doesn't work. I thought it was the larger view link.

Beautiful image! I am hiking that on Friday (hoping the water level doesn't close it like last weekend)

What time of day was this?
