2nd Honorable Mention - Macro/Close-up

Marbled Orb Weaver

Araneus marmoreus
NW New Jersey - On a neighbor's Rhodies
10/04/2012
Canon 7d, 300mm f4, HH
f 6.3
1/200s
ISO 500
Subject distance 1.5m
Cropped to horizontal

I was standing at the minimum focusing distance to the subject, and "focusing" by *very* slightly altering my stance - just by putting more weight on one or the other foot. Many of the images I got were OOF. I was happy to see at least one usable image when reviewing the card. It was overcast, so I had to bump up the ISO, and couldn't push the aperture or shutter speed much further because of the lighting conditions.

Large version available in case you want get a good view of his beady eyeballs staring at you.

Your C&C helps me improve! Thank you.

Fantastic detail here - especially for hand-held.
Great detail, an the BG/bit of web really enhance this image.
My only suggestion would be to frame a bit differently, with the spider in the lower left.
Very fine image!

Amazing, Rebecka. This may be my favorite spider image posted here this year, although we've had a lot of great ones. The subject is striking and the subject detail is really superb. I like the overall look with the nice colors, clean bg, and bits of webbing. Super shot. :toast:

Very nice image Rebecka.

I feel it could do with some of the bottom cropping off though but otherwise a cracking shot.

Great job getting the spider sharp against the soft background. The slightly oof web makes me think that she's working on her guitar playing. Congrats on the WP.

Rebecka,
Beautiful capture, even the beady little eyes. Excellent composition to include the web as a great natural frame.
Congratulations on the EPA!

Belated congratulations on this beautiful macro. The strong, colorful organic presence of the spider hanging against the soft green background is just great. Plus, I really like the lines of the web that help frame the spider.
