Back lit buck

Something a bit different from my last few postings. As bachelor buck #3 was leaving at a brisk walk, I followed him with my tripod mounted camera and soon was looking into the sun. My usual setup is manual with back button focusing. So while attempting to compose a deer on the move, keep the focus current, and dial in the right exposure, I figured these were all losers. I was ready to dump a series of 3 but when I looked at them, I thought this had possibilities. This is the middle one in sequence and in lighting. I cropped it to maybe 60% of the original to de-center it and to eliminate a very bright area in the URC. Minor sharpening. Otherwise as shot. So the question is does this work for you? Suggestions to improve it? Comments and critiques would be most helpful. Thanks in advance.

Glad you didn't dump this one. Nice image. I like the misty feeling of the photo. Again, too bad the buck was not looking more towards you. Maybe he is just camera shy?
Thanks for sharing.

I love the mood, lighting and colors here Peter. Personally I like these sort of moody near silhouettes mostly much better than a 'perfect picture' of a subject in good light with hair level detail, so kudos from me :toast: . A bit more environment left and top would have worked well for me here too. Admittedly a slight head turn in the other direction would have been better than as captured.

A little cramped, but I like the atmosphere.
