This photo was taken during a photo workshop in the Dolomites in October 2012. I was leading a group of 8 photographers and this photo was taken during the last morning shoot we had together. A fantastic morning with low hanging clouds and sun shining under the clouds.

The photo was taken with a Canon 1Ds mkIII and a Canon 24-70 f/2.8L lens on a RRS tripod. Post processing was done from a single RAW file in Lightroom 4.2.

It is tough to critique this. I really like the valley detail and the "spotlight". But the very thing that makes those qualities, the overhead low cloud cover is OOF and dull. Perhaps a bit of crop from the top down to where there is some cloud detail would be helpful.

Some may not understand this capture but in my opinion there is a dynamic tension here that supersedes some rules. The darkness at top of clouds serves as a border that keeps the eye movement focused.

Stunning to me and how lucky to get that sun peak out and focus the movement.
