Late afternoon light split between clouds on a particularly hazy day at St. Mary's Lake, Glacier NP. A bit of a different view of the lake that you normally see... The atmospherics were great, and I thought B&W was appropriate here. Single exposure, D800, 14-24.

Wow this is very nice Chris. The comp is great and the atmosphere here is just incredible like you mentioned. If I had to nit, it might be to bump the overall contrast, but that's just personal taste and not a necessity by any stretch. Can't wait to visit this park next summer.

Thanks, Peter. I experimented with boosting the overall contrast, but when I did I felt like I lost that misty quality that I was trying to preserve.

Very cool light...might try 1:2 or 16:9 crop to leave off the top little bits. Dig it!

How majestic! Seems B&W is becoming a lost art, when it's done well it's so artistic. The layers are beautiful, fascinating image.

Amazing lighting you captured. The layering is fantastic. While the little tree adds some depth, a small portion of water and the mnts and clouds might be another comp within the scene. You may have one of these as well. Very grand.

I like how the light raws span across the width of the photo leading you to the mountains, lake and then the foreground. excellent work.

The b&w really emphasizes the layers in the distance and the crepuscular rays. Looks great!

Crazy good rays Chris, and the processing conversion is spot on!! I love the little guys in the lrc; it looks they are worshiping at an altar before that amazing light.

Awesome! I love this. It might benefit from a bit more contrast since you can get away with it in BW. :toast:

For some reason, the first word that came to mind when I opened this was "crystalline" Beautiful light, nicely sculptured hills and an interesting tree in the fg. Exceptional capture.

Very nicely seen. The contrast. The rays. The foreground tree. The only thing that would make this even better (but extremely hard to control) is getting calm water for a nice reflection. Well done! :toast:

Wow. The combination of horizontal and vertical bands is striking. The lone foreground tree gives a solemn feeling. :toast:

Incredible. Amazing conditions and light. Your use of b/w seems perfect. Very unique image of this often photographed lake.

you captured a very beautiful mood here, chris! of course i love the rays but for me it's the layerd mountains and the crisp ridge that make the image!
