Old Icon Feels New

On my last day in the Tetons back in late September a front finally moved in and started clearing up all the smoke from the forest fires. I was headed north out of the park and decided to stop at the Oxbow Bend and see if I could catch any sunset light and maybe a nice reflection. Neither happened, the skies were completely overcast and the wind was blowing quite steadily when I got there. I did however stop to let a big bull elk, who was chasing some cows, cross in front of me on the drive there.

Tried coming up with a somewhat different composition here, focusing more on the brilliant foliage that was lining the banks of the river instead of the river itself.

Larger view posted. Thanks for looking and for any comments and critiques!

That's interesting Zack, I like the focus on various lines and layers in this image from the location, not on usual back plane. These mix of curves of different color with accent of white trunk really made it for me, especially with cloud lines and river chiming in. I don't mind lack of dramatic color at all. Nice arrangement and foliage certainly helps.

Sweet! I particularly like the balance of the various elements, each having an opposite (tetons - trees, clouds - slow shrubs, forest slope on left - mountain slope on right below clouds). Combined with the brighter colors in the foreground make this visually pleasing.

Great use of color contrast, Zack. I like how the purplish band is meandering between the warm tones at the bottom. The colors are a bit on the saturated side and I might pull them back a bit just to get a hint more texture into the leaves.

Zack, Nice work here! This is really a beautiful scene. I like the composition you came up with very much, and the light and colors are wonderful. The clouds also add to the great mood this has. :toast:

What a grand autumn scenic! The colors--blue and orange/gold-- are fantastic. Well composed also
with an appropriate FG, addingdifferent colors and textures.

Very nice balance between the stand of aspens and the mountain peak. I almost didn't think it was the Tetons since it wasn't that classic view of the reflections. I salute you for going out on a limb and not settling on the classic scene.

I think you found a nice balance here Zack. The peak on the left and the trees on the bottom right. The colors are really outstanding. You could try and bring a little more texture out of the sky but not an absolute necessity. This is probably my favorite landscape of yours from the Tetons. Very nice!

I definitely like this, Zack. It looks like you really got some original images from these iconic locations during your recent trip. I especially like the color palette resulting from the overcast skies and the warm / cool contrast.

Good choice to go for the foliage. I love this area, and the colors in the grasses and bare willows are amazing. not instantly Oxbow either! Nice!!!

Boy, some nice shots from the Tetons this year, and this is no exception. The elements and color all flow together beautifully. The processing looks spot on.

A very different look from this area around Oxbow, Zack. A bit of weather and angle of view change can make things look quite different at times, this is one of those captures. Nice work as always.
