Cispus Basin Sunset

Sunset light and a field of summer wildflowers in Cispus Basin, Goat Rocks Wilderness, Washington, August 2012.

This is yet another image from our 4 day backpacking trip in the Goat Rocks. There were just a few moments when the clouds were not obscuring the peaks on this evening. Luckily it coincided with the sunset light hitting the clouds. The sun was setting directly behind me while I was shooting this scene.

Nikon D800, Nikkor 14-24mm G at 14mm, no filters
7 image blend for DOF and dynamic range
- 6 images for the foreground (1/50 sec at f/11, ISO 1000) - blended using the auto blend layers function in CS6. After the auto-blend was done I flattened the image and then manually blended it with the exposure of the sky/mountains
- 1 image for the sky and mountains (1/20 sec at f/8, ISO 100)

Super lighting - love the sky light and the complimenting colors of the lupine. It looks like I can see large patches of lupine on the hill sides to the left. Your processing of the light looks excellent, just as I would expect to see at this time of evening. The wedges of color create some nice visual layers. Looks like you have a couple of winners from that backpack. Not much I would change. :toast:

Beautiful and colorful flower field brighten a moody landscape. Many may have passed this opportunity due to the weather, but you really made the most of it.

Nice backdrop to those beautiful lupine. The cloud color is a nice and subtle bonus.

I'm not sure we can be friends anymore, your trip was just too productive.

Nice pink light on the clouds to compliment the blues throughout. I'm really liking the color palette in this. :toast:

Scott, you really nailed the lupine this year. Another fine image and I like that little bit of pink in the sky. Nice work!

Wow, what a view, Scott. It looks like you caught the lupines in their prime and that touch of warm color in the clouds is the icing on the cake for me. Fantastic image!

I love the mood here and the flower stand in contrast to this moody landscape scene.
