WC-556 Spring Crocus

John's post inspired me to go back through some of my crocus images. They're a special flower for me - one of the first to bloom in spring, signalling winter should end - but in these parts, they often end up getting covered by a fresh snow-fall.

I've been told they're thermogenic - not sure. However, when there is a snowfall, the crocuses do find a way to emerge. Call me crazy, but I always hope for a touch of snow when I see the crocuses in spring, as I think there are some great photo-ops when that happens.

This is one of those images. Canon 40D, 100-400mm lens @ 400mm, ISO 200, 1/500sec @ f/11, +2/3 EV.

Thanks for looking and for your comments on my last post :wavey:

Wow, this is a wonderful picture and so perfect for the theme, Karen! Unfortunately it was posted after the end of the this theme so it can't be considered for a weekly pick. :frown: I know it gets confusing but our time frame follows EST. We go from Sunday at 12:01 am to Saturday 12:00 pm EST. Please repost this for the theme Snowflake Flowers (#559) which is coming up shortly! This photo fits that theme perfectly too.

Very cool! (pun intended) The warming capability of the flower is shown nicely by the little opening in the snow. Great dof choice with the flower and the snow edge sharp.
