I went to the beach tonight in hopes of finding some migratory birds - I pretty much came up empty on that front, but had some deer working the dunes as the sun was setting. I shot into the setting sun for this one and liked how the deer decided to take a rest while I worked... I think this image would benefit from it being a buck with a nice rack instead of a more basic doe.

Hi Luke! I really like the mood and softness here, and the wonderful subtle tones. I guess I agree it would be more striking to have a regal-looking buck here instead, but somehow the "gentle doe" look really fits the overall scene you captured as well...perhaps even better?

In any event, this IS a nice, pleasing image as presented. I almost never get to experience this kind of light, or mood, here along the edge of the Rockies in SW Alberta. Frankly the near-constant wind seems to blow this light to the south and east!

Beautiful shot! I agree with John that the gentle doe fits the soft scene very well.

Hey Luke,

Nice mood and feeling of calmness here - well done. Positioning of the subject works for me. My only small nit is that the doe itself looks a bit soft (as in out-of-focus soft). I'm wondering if a VERY SMALL increase in contrast on the doe only (and I'm mean slight!) coupled with some selective sharpening on the doe might still leave it subtle but improve the overall look a little? Just a thought...

Cheers...
