This statue is located in the garden of the Dominican Sisters' convent in Great Bend, KS. The morning sun currently is in a position to be filtered through the trees. I have tried a couple of times to capture this play of light, with the cross and eyes both lit while the background stayed in the shadows. Watching the play of light is surprisingly peaceful to me. I finally accomplished this on Sunday morning. I don't know much about the history/story of the statue, except that it was carved near Hays, KS and the rough style is typical of that area. 7D, ISO 400, f/8, 1/2000, slight crop.

I really like the way to treated the light, and the effort was worth it. Use of Light is the most crucial thing to any photo.

She often experienced ecstasy during prayer. I think this is a soulful rendering from your masterful use of the light. Really paid off waiting for the right conditions. Thanks so much for sharing this; it's very special to me to see it.
