Lila At Her Peak

Lake Lila is in the Whitney Wilderness area of the Adirondacks. I was lucky enough to be there, looking down from nearby Mt. Frederica during this year's short period of peak fall colors. We had lots of rain this year, with only a few days to catch scenes like this.

I'm not a big fan of super-wide panoramas because of the way they distort the foreground into a wide "smile" but I did not crop out the foreground in this one, because the trees were right next to it. Does that curve in the rock on the bottom bother you?

Since this is a narrow panorama, it needs to be seen in the LARGE version.

Canon 24-105
0.3 sec. @ f/11; ISO 160
Six-frame panorama, stitched in CS5.

What gorgeous country. I have a son and daughter-in-law in Rochester but have yet to get over into the Adironacks. I absolutely have to put it on my must do Fall bucket list. :toast:

Spectacular!
For me, the curving rocks frame the scene beautifully. Sweet colours, nice lake, and great evening clouds.

Spectacular pano, Wayne! Real pretty and a classic Adirondack scene. The rhs is maybe a tad busy/cluttered, but obviously the comp was tricky from this vantage and all things considered i think you did a stellar job. :toast:

Beautiful scene, amazing colors, and good comp!. I wouldn't have really thought that rock couldn't have been that way naturally??? I mean nothing else in the scene looks distorted to me.

Wayne, this is beautiful. I really like the vastness of the image. The color in the clouds compliments the color in the trees very nicely. Great image.

Great fall scene Wayne! I see what you mean with "smile". This effect can be a bit too obvious in some scenes. I think it is not a problem here, but perhaps you would like to crop a bit from the bottom. This would also eliminate a bit of the lower right corner which like Stan noted, looks a tad cluttered.
Anyway, a gorgeous scene!

I like the curved rock in the foreground, it's works with the evergreens on the right as a nice living frame. The colors in the forest are beautiful and that touch of color in the clouds adds nicely to the overall warmth. Nothing like fall in New England!

Wayne, I like this a lot, the rock is not an issue for me as I think it gives it a fisheye look which works here.

Flatout fantastic image, Wayne. The fall colors are great as is the grand view of the lake and surrounding forest. The curve does not bother me a bit as I do not detect distortion anywhere else in the scene.

This is another good one Wayne. I really like the "U" shape in the foreground and the fall colors spreading out below.
