Fishing for Salmon

This Grizzly bear was fishing for salmon along Chilkoot River in Alaska. He had just swatted at a fish, hence the splash around him. I had been tracking him with my camera for quite a while, so I was able to frame the image up as I liked. He did end up getting a salmon, but not the one he swatted at here.

This image is full frame width wise, but was cropped from the top and bottom to make a pano. I really like all the colours and textures and that's part of the reason why I left it full frame. If you have time please look at the larger image!

Thanks for looking!

Jenaya, I have to like this composition! It is beautiful in so many ways. Beautiful subject and surroundings and a bird in the scene to boot. Love it! You stay safe!

I fully agree with Jim's comments, beautiful. You couldn't design this from scratch any better.

Jenaya,
Nice environmental shot of the bear! As the others have said, everything came together beautifully- the bear, the bird, the colorful vegetation, and the beautiful river! Love the bear's action too! When you say tracking him what do you mean? On foot? Sounds like fun! Keep up the great bear shots!

That shorebird adds some great interest too.

Thanks for the nice comments everyone!

Cam: I had meant that I had my lens on him the whole time in case something happened. By "tracking" him with the camera for so long I was able to frame him as I liked just in case something happened.

Wow Jenaya, what a shot! Great low angle, excellent color, and I think the pano works well here - great job!

Hi Jenaya,

This one is very nicely composed and I think your choice of crop works well. The fall colours, the gull, and the rock on the right all add to the overall scene. Even the uplifted paw adds to the image. My only suggestion on this one pertains to the flowing water - it might be worth pulling the exposure on the water down just a tad (like 1/2 stop at most) and/or attempt to pull out a little light-on-light detail in the rapids. But as posted this shot is definitely very solid...well done...

Cheers...

Neat pano. My wish would have been for you to ask the gull to look at the bear! Thanks for sharing this one.

Beautiful, Jenaya. I really like the fall colors and the nonchalant stance of the Gull. Well seen and executed. :toast:
