Looking for acorns

Out early at sunrise to check on the deer at the local preserve. Found a number of them (mostly does) including this nice buck. All were at or close to oak trees. This is a good year for acorns so the deer appear to be hanging around the oaks looking for a nutritious meal. As the fall/winter rains haven't started yet nothing has greened up so acorns are a real treat especially at the end of the time of limited food. I read where some acorns here are 10% protein and 35% fats. So I can see why they would like them. The deer have a way of eating the acorns with a vigorous chewing and an ability to have the broken shells fall out of their mouth. It's kind of neat watching them eat the acorns. This buck seemed to be enjoying his breakfast. Had to do some cloning to get rid of a stem running straight up his face. Warmed the image up just a bit as well. Comments and critiques welcome and appreciated.

View larger to appreciate quality of detail! I like him in habitat and the alert nature of his pose. A little light would have been helpful, but this works fine. I am enjoying the accounting you provide of these encounters.

I like the pose he gave you as well as the grasses in front of him, I think it should be lightened a bit. :toast:

Nice one Peter. I like how you were able to get good focus on the buck with all of the grasses between you and him. To me it looks like it tilts to the right. Thanks for sharing.
