One of those photos I'd guess we all get from time to time. I had a surprise when I looked at this for the first time on a large monitor and noticed the damselfly being eaten by the larger DF. I had heard of this being common but never saw it before.

Olympus E-5
50 to 200mm !200mm
1/200 sec
f 10
-o.3 ev
spot metering
ISO 200
manual focus
Approx 50% of FF

Thanks for looking and comments.

Great interest with the juvenile Pondhawk? devouring the hapless damsel.
This takes the phrase "Damsel in Distress" to a whole new level:wink:
Thanx for posting this Charlie

Excellent capture of this remarkable insect behavior, Charlie. The angle and clean bg provides a great view of the action.

"Damsel in Distress." Good one, Howard.

Yes, that is a good title for this, although the distress has progressed past that, I think, here. Thanks Howard and Scott for looking and comments.

Charlie
Great photo story. Incidentally, I saw a similar one a few days ago with a green skimmer devouring a crimson dropwing but I did not have a long enough lens to get close up.

Interesting behavioral image. Not the type of image you catch too often. Good detail and dof

Wonderful detail Charlie, amazing when you find a photo has more content than you thought. Nice bgnd and lighting.

I once took a photo of a Queen Snake in West Virginia, later I saw a spider also using the log as a perch!
