Dark & Moody

by Bill Chambers

Gallery: LandscapePosted October 6, 2012233 views12 comments
I wanted this image to represent something dark and moody, like something Edgar Allen Poe would have seen had he roamed the Florida bottomlands instead of the streets of Baltimore. I added an Orton effect to help attain that feel.

Please view LARGE version for better detail.

D2x w/ 12-24 @ 12mm
1/2 sec @ f/11 - MLU and remote release
100 ISO
No filters
Tripod
CS4, Capture One 6, Orton effect

I would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks for looking.

This is an intriguing and dark image, even creepy. Very unusual, and fascinating in a dream-like way. Looks like there should be snakes lurking there under water. I think you succeeded in the Poe effects. Almost in time for Halloween.

I really like the concept, and the composition works very nicely. The orton, however, doesn't work for me... but don't let that get in your way

Love the composition the Orton effect is just a wee bit too strong for my taste.

To me, the Orton effect kind of gives it the look of a painting, and the more i look at it, the more I like it, I think you did a great job on this, and achieved your gole. Well done Bill.

Definitely moody and dark in a very interesting scene. I especially like the Orton effect in the top sections but would like to see the bottom three stones sharp (I think ), which makes me wonder about applying it through some kind of gradient.

This is great. It definitely has a mood to it and anytime now some alligator or other creature from the depths will spring forth. Well done.

I think the Orton works well with this image, giving it a mystical, spooky feel. I like the frame of greenery in the BG and the splash of red in the FG.
