Tahoe Black and White

I am experimenting with the Nik Software demo and am curious what people think of this. I like it pretty well, though it still looks "fake" to me. Lake Tahoe is such a beautiful blue that I never thought I'd like a black and white. Sand Harbor State Park

I too am trying Nik Silver for a 15 day try out. The shot looks well done.

I like it Kathy. The sky looks good, but I feel like the contrast is a bit flat in the water/rocks/trees. Maybe a slight increase in contrast in those areas?

I like it too, but there does seem to be a bit of halo around the trees

This is a well composed image with very nice range of B&W tones. I struggle with the same issues. It is the increased local contrast that creates the punch that we all want, and that Nik and other programs create for us, but it's this same increase that is "fake". The advantage of black and white is that it is inherently an abstraction from reality, so fake becomes less meaningful.

I used Nik Siver Efex Pro. I do not know much about B&W photography, but the filters they have are very helpful. I really like the image. The image looks a little flat. I would try to boost the contrast.

I like your B&W conversion Kathy. I think a touch more contrast might help though. I use Nik Silver Efex 2 and find it comes pretty close to my B&W film work in the past with tweeks.

The conversion works well, especially with that sweet sky.

I guess one could say some of Ansel Adams images look fake too, with his use of yellow and red filters to pop the clouds and darken the sky. But they still look great.
