Iceland again, the sun setting behind a field of lava...
while this was a spectacular scene to witness, I had a hard time trying to find an engaging comp in the few moments of light...
would be interested to hear if this comp works for you?

please view large, thanks for looking or commenting

Wow, what a totally desolate, martian like terrain, but still quite beautiful in it's own way. Composition works pretty well for me, but I do wish there was more sky visible.

The landscape is interesting, but the sky is what makes the image. Interesting composition.

The chaotic composition holds up pretty well IMO giving it a somewhat Hellish vision.

It is quite busy but I do like the way you've positioned the two larger rock clusters in your comp. Perhaps isolating them may work by darkening the surrounds, but the photo works well as is. The fiery sunset adds to the look of a wasteland.

Wow, this looks so desolate. Quite an interesting shot and the detail and textures in the lava look fantastic. I think the sky works great adding to the feel of this scene.

An odd but fresh look to this lava field. Maybe the lava field is a bit too busy for me, but not manyother options asit is so vast here.

Karsten,

Iceland? Really? I agree with other comments that this looks like it could be Mars, certainly not something I would have thought about Iceland.

Great job in handling the light, exposure - assuming a blend of some sort? Excellent. This looks like quite an unforgiving environment. Great and interesting textures as well. some of that stuff looks like pumice.

Well done.

Thanks for your comments, folks.
Lon, it's a manual blend of 2 exposures, yes. This landscape of lava covered with moss is something you actually see all over the place in Iceland...
I guess people just happen to take more photos of glacier ice on a beach

Karsten, your composition works impressively for me. The tangible details in the foreground make me feel like standing in the middle of the scene. You did a great job with blending and processing in my opinion.

Unique and interesting. The sky really tops it off
