Thank you for comments on the Morning Glory series. Onto dahlias. As some may have seen from my last two posts in Macro, I have been shooting close-ups of dahlias and bees in flight. I backed off for this comp and got low to compose these dahlias and bees against the sky. In this post, I liked having one bee approaching, one leaving, and one on the flower. Obviously, the exiting bee is not sharp. If I were to print this, he'd magically disappear. Dahlias and honeybees, Fellows Riverside Gardens, Youngstown. D700, 24-120 @ 120, f13, iso 500, 1/500 sec. (single image). Larger image included. Comments, suggestions, and questions welcome. :wavey:

IMHO this is a very nice image, almost delicate in form. The bees certainly set it off from just a flower image. Nice BG also. TFS

Scott: Magical capture IMO. I do much prefer the second version without the upper bee. Even if it was in focus I think I would like it gone as it is outside the comp so to speak and a distraction while the other two are very complementary. Hope that makes sense. Great shot. >=))>

Scott - Tough choice really specially the picture within the picture is interesting with the 3 Bees. If you said this was a composite of the same bee approaching, perching and then flying off, I'd believe that too.

Great timing and Action captured. By the way, the one in the Macro Gallery is an awesome shot.

Scott
The one without the bee would be my preference. Like the sky bg making this image airy. Lots to explore in this image. :toast:

Very beautiful image, Scott! I prefer the second version. I agree with Bill, that the comp is better without the oof bee even if it was in focus.

The upper dahlia is an airport very busy Scott! I like the freshness and naturalness of the shot. I too like the repost better.
Take care.

This is just so delightful, Scott ! The delicacy of the colours on this white ground give it the feel of a book illustration - perfectly composed and lit in every way - with or without the oof bug !! Superb !!
