A 5-minute exposure at Glacier NP's St Mary Lake brings out the lingering colors of twilight.

View it large at the Purchase Print link above.

Awesome light and mood! The colors are wonderful and I especially enjoy the reflection on the water. Great comp! I don't always like the long exposures with clouds but it works fantastic here! Makes me think about trying it more  Nice work Alex!!

I've never been to Glacier to photograph. This image motivates me to do so.
The FG rocks serve as great lead in lines. The mountain formations are well
composed, and that's a very special sky. Superb color. You found a great
scenic, Alex, and composed and exposed it wonderfully.

This is excellent. I like the composition in particular...the understated foreground is a nice, subtle lead-in to the dramatic peaks and sky.

Alex,

Hey, nice job in finding a new and refreshing perspective of this lake and view. The sky, lake and mountains are fantastic here. And while appreciate the notion of finding a new a different viewpoint, personally I feel the bottom half is just too dark. Certainly the darkness is fitting for the conditions and time of day, but for me, I just want to walk up closer just for the lake and the big sky.

Certainly not a bad image by any stretch, just don't think it ranks up there with your better evening, long exposure images. Just my .02. and thanks for sharing this.

Thanks for the input, Lon. I, too, wanted to walk up closer - but I was exploring and composing this in near-blackness (couldn't see anything without my headlamp), and I had heard it was a sheer brush-filled drop-off to the water just ahead, from my buddy that scouted it. Thus, I was drawn in by the only thing I could see at all - the white-gray rocks. And this was a single exposure, exposed for the sky, due to the time constraints of this time of evening, and the necessity of dark-frame subtraction to reign in thousands of hot pixels. With the foreground brought up from near-blackness (due to the wonderful sensor of the D7000), I'm not sure I even could go any brighter in the FG without it looking horrible. Did you check out the Purchase Print link? It looks brighter on the dark background of my website. I'll post one from another evening with a brighter and more interesting foreground in a minute here.

Thanks for the response and thoughts Alex. The larger view IS a much better view - honestly I did not check it the first time. I'll look forward to your other image.

Very powerful image, Alex. I like how this is at the edge of underexposure, but not underexposed.
