1st Place Winner - Macro/Close-up

Eine Kleine Nachtsinger

... with my apologies to Mozart, I could not think of a better title for this melodious one-inch nocturnal creature than "A Little Night Singer." It's a spring peeper, a very common frog that is heard by everyone, but seldom seen because of its small size and nocturnal habits.

I wanted to convey both of those traits in this photograph, so it is intentionally sparsely-lit and dark; and I didn't crop it much, so the viewer could compare it to the size of the leaves here. Was I successful?

Canon 5DMkII
Sigma 150 mm. Macro
0.8 sec. @ f/16; ISO 640
Tripod; release

Very successful, Wayne. Looks moon-lit. I think including the leaves was a good decision to portray the size of the cute little frog. Love the pose on the branch. :toast:

I like this a lot! The lighting is super nice & not over-powering...this is great as a night shot! Is that a building in the BG? It might look a little more natural if it was burned a little darker as I find it slightly distracting. I like how both of his eyes are lit up...looks like he wasn't going to stay there long after your flash!

Gorgeous, Wayne. Excellent work. The night comes through very well and I like the way the leaf curves.

Neat photo Wayne. You did a great job IMHO in getting the frog well exposed while keeping the nocturnal setting. Danke!

Awwww! I can certainly see why they aren't seen very much if they are only 1 inch! I quite like the low lighting here, you succeded in showing both his traits. Congrats on a well deserved weekly pick, Wayne! :wavey:
