Evanescent Beauty

Here is a new shot from everybody's favourite black sand beach, as I have just come back from a 3-week-trip to Iceland.
In the background you can see the edges of the glacier where all this ice is coming from
... must confess to cloning out a small cloud in the upper right corner for the sake of a better balance.

Thanks for looking or commenting.

What an amazing scene Karsten, love the clear ice on the black sand. Beautifully seen and presented.

Karsten, This really has a nice 3D effect! Nice reflection on the wet shoreline and I really like the clarity of the foreground ice against the dark sand. Very nice!

Karsten, a very interesting perspective here with the progress and stages of the melting ice. The darker beach and dark FG water lends to enhancing the outline of the ice blocks. A very nice capture from this remote area.

I didn't know I would like this as much as I do from the thumbnail. I think the static foreground works really well in front of the crashing background waves and the sweet light on the clouds.

Very cool, Karsten. I like the vantage point though the long piece of ice in the immediate foreground is a bit too dominating for my taste.

Love the motion of the waves in the back with the stillness of the glacier in the foreground. The light is pretty nice. Very nice capture!

Karsten,

Perhaps one of the more non-abstract looks we've seen from these beeches. I mean we've seen some wild and amazing abstract and unique images - this one almost seems like something a little more ordinary (only meaning relative to many of the images we've seen from here.) To try and say another way as my foot goes further in mouth.... I now get to see a view that I can put context and perspective to the location. And for that, I think you've done very well in capturing the essence and mood of the place.

I have to see this one day. Iceland is on my list. The black sand and the chuncks of ice make this so "weird" and exotic. Your comp is excellent as is but as the main interest is the beach, the ice and the waves, I am suggesting an unorthodox crop : a pano, eliminating most of the sky, keeping just a tiny bit of the bottom of the big cloud. I am sure this is not a crop everyone would favour, but I like how the beach gets wider and more dominating. Anyway, very good work!

Good composition. The little details such as the warm reflections in the foreground ice are very enjoyable as well as the bigger picture.

That glassy ice in the foreground looks stunning! Not that the ice blocks in the background aren't interesting (nice cyan hue!), but that glass in the front really puts it over the top. Way to go!

Thanks for your comments folks.

Lon, I was actually hoping to show something different from this place by using a more ordinary comp, since most pics from here are so very abstract... oh well

Dietrich, I see your point about cropping and putting further emphasis on the wide open beach... I just like the pink cloud too much for that I'm afraid

Paul, this place may look exotic, but I wouldn't exactly call it remote... I´d like to claim I had to cross that glacier to get to the beach, but you can actually drive right next to the ice

I like the depth you captured here Karsten. A different perspective from this place that we usually see and I like it. Were there hordes of photographers there?

Eva, there are quite a few tourists during the day... at sunrise I believe we were 2 or 3 photographers... still deserted by US standards I suppose?
