Here is a shot from the epic North Rim trip I had with a few NPN'ers. This was sunset the first night at Locust Point. Decided to try something new so did a long exposure during sunset. This is the result.

Canon 5D II
Canon 17-40mm
ISO 320
f/20
125 secs

Thanks for looking!

Judging by this and a whole lot of other images from around this location you all had a particularly great day out together. Glorious light on the "S" bend of the escarpment in the left bottom corner. Maybe a fraction hot to the right in the sky, but not unnaturally so. The bluish tinge to the clouds in the sky is a great foil for the overall red glow imparted to the rocks by the setting sun.

The light and layering here are fantastic. Cloud movement is nice, but wish it were more pronounced.

This has a drifty/dreamy feel to it that I enjoy. Very nice image

Love the glow on the rock faces! Very nice depth to the scene as well! Maybe a little less sky would be nice for my taste. Great shot!

Lovely view and light and the glow on the rock face on the left is particularly nice.

Long exposure Chikku at it again! Good job controlling the light here with such a long exposure. The layered light is fantastic.

Thank you everyone!

Tony: I too wish the exposure was a bit longer, but anything longer I would loose details in the sun star as that was setting fast too.

This is really something special because you chose to go with a long exposure. The soft clouds are lovely contrasting nicely with the hard rock canyon walls. The sun is in a perfect place to light up the canyon and create a nice star which is not overdone. Very nice image Chikku.

You captured some wonderful light Chikku. Love the glowing reds through the canyon and the blues up top. A large version would have been great  Great shot!

Excellent color and light, and your comp utilizes leading lines very well. I like the cloud movement, too. I am asuming that you used an 8 or 10 stop ND filter to get such a long exposure with the sun still prominent in the sky?

Excellent light and color here. I agree with Wayne about less sky, which is hard to say because the sky is so nice, but it's mainly the near-centered placement of the horizon line that bothers me in that respect. Perhaps a 16:9 crop from the bottom up would be my instinct here, but then printing is a pain. Agree with Ian that the sky is a bit hot on the right, but indeed not unnaturally so - more a matter of personal preference. I'd like to see the sun itself stand out from the surrounding sky a bit better. Last thing is that the horizon appears to be tilted clockwise - I'd give it maybe 0.2 degrees of CCW rotation. Despite all my nitpicking, still a very nice image!
