Soft Petals

Hello! This is an shot from the "archives" that I took about a year ago. There is very little focus or depth of field, but that's what I wanted; I was hoping for a somewhat painterly appearance when I made the image. It probably won't work for everyone, or perhaps no one at all, but I just thought I'd post it and see the response. :wavey:

I did some very slight touch ups to the flower and the background, along with selective sharpening and noise reduction.
Nikon D200, 60mm, f/4.2, 1/160, ISO 250.
All comments and critiques appreciated!

Thanks in advance,
Jaymes

Not yet 100% sure about my reaction to this, Jaymes. The tones I like very much, and the petals crossing the centre give a certain point of focus, but then there are so many diverse directional elements that I find it hard to grasp the flower as a satisfying whole. Will look again !!

Like Ian, I'm on the fence with this one. I think I would prefer to see a little more DOF......?

Jaymes:
I like the pose of the bloom with the two criss-cross petals and the overall softness of the image. However, I wish for most forward crossing petal is tack sharp to draw the view in.

Interesting image with the crossing petals. It's like the flower is heading its eyes. The image is unique and cute.

Jaymes - Its definitely an unusual composition and that can sometimes be good. I really like the two overlapping petals which kind of seem to be in an Embrace. That interpretation carries this shot for me.

This one just doesn't work for me Jaymes. I like the subject, but need more depth, and for me there is too much space on the bottom. I am not being critical of the image, just expressing my thoughts and vision. I always feel that the photographer has to show their vision and what is appealing to them. I go over this time and again with my gallery owner as his work (also a photographer) is impressionistic where I am detail oriented.

If I didn't know it was a photograph...I sure would think it was a painting! It's different, but I like it!
