Once in a Blue Moon

The Blue Moon happens so infrequently that I always forget what it means: two full moons in the same month, which just occurred this past month.

Canon 5d, MkIII, ISO800, 105mm, f/16, 1/10 sec, tripod, ND filter.

This is a very minimalist photo, but I think I like its simplicity.
Taken at Contra Loma reservoir, near Antioch, California.

That's a very pleasing image, Kathy. Well composed, a great color palette, and a wonderful mood. According to a piece I read recently, a blue moon occurs about once every 2 1/2 years.

Kathy,

Lovely capture of the rising moon. I really like the color gradation in the sky showing off the pink of the earth's shadow. Nice that you retained some detail on the moon's surface too. Nice job.
