This grizzly is heading for a quick meal with a nice catch. Slight crop off the left.

Nikon D300 F 7.1 1/200 ISO 400 Nikon 200-400 w 1.4 teleconverter @ 500mm

Is the head crisp enough ? Comments and critiques please.

Great catch - for both of you!
Hard to tell detail with only a small image...
You needed more SS and higher ISO for a moving critter - the legs are blurred here.
The whole thing looks a bit "flat" to me - increasing contrast and sats should help, and darkening the water.
Worth more work, for sure - very nice image!
Sandy .

Changes made per Sandy's suggestion. The slight blur in the legs imply motion to me. Appreciate all comments.

Hi Andrew,

I'll definitely agree with Sandy that it's pretty much impossible to tell if the head is sharp enough on this size of an image - would even be tough on a 1200 pixel version with the head occupying only this much of the frame. I suppose I can say that at this size it looks OK!

When I first looked at the image I thought 3 things: cropped a bit tight for me for this type of shot, a little low in contrast, and that I would darken the water significantly if this were my shot (oh yeah, and I also thought "nice shot!"). When I look at your repost I do like it better, but I'm not sure about the saturation bump - looks a tad punchy on my monitor. And, if it were mine, I'd pull back the exposure on the water even more...

Cheers...thanks for sharing this one...

Brad

Nice action Andrew But I am echo with Sandy and Brad ..specially my first impression of lack of Contrast that killed the beauty of action. Exposure is main problem otherwise Image is good..Thanks for sharing it...:)
