Backlit Flowers

This was taken at Clear Lake in the San Juan Mtns. in Colorado. I was shooting the last of the flowers in the shade quite a bit after sunrise. Just as I was setting up, the sun peaked over the ridge. I made lemonade (I think) and dropped down to get a back-lit shot of the flowers.

5DIII, 24mm T/SE, 1/400 sec. F/22 (for starburst), & ISO 800 (the wind was blowing).

Way better than lemonade. The backlit paintbrush are great and the sunburst is a nice counter point to them.

Nice use of the shallow dof. Good comp, exposure, and color.

A beautiful shot of the backlit flowers. I'm in two minds about the oof bg and shallow dof. I do like the prominence of the flowers, but the large sunstar and oof bg is a little distracting. Perhaps cropping a small amount off the top to eliminate the bright center of the sun might work. Just a thought. I do like this one just the same.

Perfect sunstar. I've been trying to master them without a lot of success so far. The back lit flowers are a delight.
