The Hummingbird
by Kent Staubus
I'm now in the middle of the threshing bee season, and loving every minute! Most states have these; Midwestern states certainly do. There seems to be photos everywhere I look! Here, I found a nice grouping of 1920s--30s vintage threshing machines. Earlier the crews had been busy threshing wheat, but when I returned at sundown they were abandoned. An intense storm had just passed over--the dark clouds are in the background to the east. As the clouds moved off the scene was hit with golden sunlight. I couldn't resist. Shot with the 1951 Rolleiflex, HP5 film. The square format is a challenge to learn how to use effectively, but I feel I'm improving with practice.
