Sunrise in the Fog

This is a picture I made a couple of weeks back on a foggy morning at sunrise. I'm not really sure how well it works as a photograph but it sure was enjoyable being there to watch it. Thank you for any thoughts.
Canon, 70-300L @128mm, iso 400, f/14 and 1/400 sec.

I like how this one turned out Nick. Excellent mood and atmosphere. You did a great job dealing with the dynamic range.

It works for me, Nick--nice--although i think it might have been even stronger with a fg subject that was in front of the fog. :wavey:

Thanks much for your thoughts on this one. I did think about a nice foreground subject but just couldn't make it happen in the time I had. Really appreciate your comments! Nick

Works for me. Looks like something one might find in the Smoky Mountains and you did do a great job with the dynamic range. :toast:

I love moments like this, especially since we don't get them very often in Colorado. Too arid. You captured the feel of the experience very well. Moody and beautiful.

Nick,

I'd say this works fantastic as a photograph! I know I've watched the sun in conditions like this - so fluid and dynamic as the fog moves about, gets thicker or clears up. Color is spot on too - no nits from me. Excellent.

I think this works well. I like the layers here Nick - this has almost an abstract feel to it. Your processing looks good too - this must have been a bit of a tricky exposure but you handled it well.

Looks like a magical scene to have watched, Nick. I agree with Stan that another layer or two (or many more) would have added a lot. But then again I imagine there may not have been many other options.

Fabulous capture of the light Nick. I like the silhouette of the tree line just starting to show through the fog.

great atmosphere and conditions here. I'd be inclined to chop off some of the top - would add tension and more focused interest.

Gorgeous light and colour here Nick, the silhouetted tree line adds so much to mood of the shot.

Thanks to all of you for your comments on this.
Floris, I did want to add more to the foreground but just could not come up with anything, just as you thought.
Really appreciate the thoughts that all of you have had on this. Nick

Great interplay of colors and layers for me, Nick. Your image has an almost abstract quality for me, an impressive work.
