Jack Attack!

Flowers are a-booming this year! This is from Three Finger Jack in the Sisters Wilderness in Oregon this last weekend. My buddy Paul Bowman and I took off early Saturday morning for a short overnight backpack into TFJ. Other than being crazy hot the hike was awesome. As we approached the upper meadow I saw a pretty good size meadow of lupine, then as I rounded the corner and saw acres of lupine! By far the larger display of lupine I have ever seen, and it was in full peak bloom! It was a great trip.

As for the technicals here, there was quite a bit of dof blending going on (obviously), I used 5 shots. 3 for the paintbrush and front row of lupine to get tack sharp front to back and 2 for the mid and back. The 5th shot was double processed for the mountain and then the sky. All shots were shot at f16, 640 iso, shutter speeds varied.

I know this may not be that appealing to some. The "in ur face" look isn't for everyone, and I understand that. For me, this was really more of at exercise in the technicalities it took to do it. I believe it adds a new element to the image, aside from just being a beautiful mountain scene. Being able to see the crispy sharpness in nature from front to back is kinda cool in some shots. So with that said....Thanks for looking and commenting!

I added a link to where it show a bit better without as much compression.

Magnificent field of flowers Jeremy. I shudder at the difficulty of blending such a shot, but the blend looks excellent to me. The warm sunlight on the mountain against the blue sky is beautiful too. Looks like an extremely salable image. Nice one.

with so many people seemingly gone off flowers in a FALES (as defined by Stan) comp, you continue to produce nice images. this works well. there's a artifact around the edge of the mountain (i presume blending/sharpening) that distracts somewhat.

Great colors and I love the in your face comps. If I had to nit pick it might be to have more separation between the paintbrush and lupine, but it is fine just the way it is. Just want to see the expanse of lupine I suppose.

My first thought when I looked at this was how natural it looks, wonderful job on the processing Jeremy, this is killer. If I were to suggest something it would be to brighten the highlights in the lupine slightly to make them pop a bit more, as the ones on the right look a bit flat. Nothing major, just little improvements to make a great shot even better. Love the sharpness throughout as well. Nice find! :toast: :toast:

I personally love the in your face look. this one is done really well. The relative sizing of the flowers and the mountain is great and everything is lit nicely and processed to look really natural. Love it.
