Looking at You

This is not the most technically executed image, but I really liked the pose of the deer. I was at Buffalo Creek Wildlife Management Area. I had been out for 3 or 4 hours in the morning and was heading back to the truck when these 3 Whitetails came up out of a wash and started up the opposite side from me. The stopped close to the top and checked me out. The longest thing I had with me was a 70-300, hence this is a large crop. They didn't stay long, so I had just enough time to fire off 3 or 4 shots. There was a tree I was trying to shoot over, that is why there is more sky then I would want. When I tried to move to the right away from the tree a little they were gone. I really like the way all 3 are staring at me and the spots on the fawn in front. Thanks for all of your comments and critiques.

You certainly got their full attention. All nits you have already mentioned.

You certainly have their attention, Richard. The fawn is really getting pretty good size. How they grow in just a few months. A good image to showcase the deer and their habitat. You might try cropping some to make their presence larger without any negative effect to showing the habitat. White-tails are pretty spooky so this is really a testament to being able to respond quickly to a momentary opportunity.

Nice one Richard! I like the position you have the deer in the frame. Also, their looking at you. Not sure if any more cropping would help, I like the habitat you show in this image. Thanks for sharing.

Great to catch 3 sets of ears all aimed at you!
Nice habitat shot.
Looks as if it could use some CCW rotation to level it.

This has a good mood and has drawn me back to look a couple of times. I wonder about the white balance, as this seems very warm, but not impossible. Is that the single ear of another deer on the right side horizon?
