Olympus E5, ZD300 2.8, 2xTC, ISO100, f5.7, 1/800 resting on vehicle window

Found this nice Ferruginous Hawk on a ride this afternoon. Love the colors on their backs. This was about a 50% crop.

A fine specimen and nice pose and background. Looks like something has gone wrong with detail on the face, though, especially in the larger version.

Hi Richard,
I hadn't noticed that in the version I posted. I just took a quick look at the eye and it looked good. However, I compared it to a second shot moments after the first, and I can see what you are talking about. See if this next version looks better. Thanks again for pointing that out. The even larger version of this second shot looks pretty good in the head area.

Very nice pose, perch, and background. Nice head turn and catch light. Agree the second posting looks sharper.

What a beauty, Dave. The repost is better, but not yet perfect. I still see some artifact on the edge of the bird all the way around. Try selecting only the bird for sharpening (select the background first, then inverse). I really like the feather patterns of this Hawk. :toast:

Very interesting feather display and what a wonderful find. The second image looks great, way to go.

You had a great bird, nice background and good light. Detail seems smeared, very odd. He looks very regal.
