Toadflax

We were camping with our four grandchildren in Rocky Mtn. Nat. Park for four days last week. A small stand of Toadflax was near our camp site. Pretty flower and it keep drawing a Broad-tailed Hummingbird. I know the dof of this shot is shallow and some will wish for more. I have one with some more dof and may post it later, but I kind of like this one. I would appreciate any and all comments.

Canon 40D

Aperture Priority

Did you get any shots with the hummer? That would be neat! I do wish there was more DOF...but that is more because of the perspective you chose here. I would be interested in seeing how it looked from a lower perspective at the same setting.

Agree with Eirini. Also, I would be tempted to fool around with sat/hue for a more pleasing color scheme. Not the toadflax, just the BG. Maybe more toward green, or maybe just darker.

I think your DOF in this image makes it appealing in an abstract way but I think generally I would like more DOF also. I also agree about playing with the background. Making it darker and/or more saturated may help highlight that lovely flower even more. That must have been fascinating to watch the hummingbird on this flower. . .great nature experience with your grandchildren!

Richard:
I agree with comments made so far. Kind of like a little more DOF but not sure how this would affect the bg though, so would be interested to see your other post. A way around the more DOF and bg issue is to do stacking if you are so inclined.

This shallow range gives this a wonderful BG that I don't think could be obtained any other way. I like this.

I really like this, Richard. The depth of field works really well for me, I like how shallow it is. :toast:
