Trying out my new lens..50mm. I've never used a prime lens before but I rather like it. This is a seedhead of a salsify. Please let me know how I can improve and get the most out of this little lens. Thanks for looking.

Canon T1i
1/80sec f/5.0 45mm

Nancy ...First things first .. Congratulations on the new lens and for it being 50mm. Now you will see realistic beauty of the natural world through that lens. And a fantastic comp of a simple subject ....well done

Wonderful image. Well composed with interesting lines. The Depth of field was well chosen with everything that needs to be in focus is in focus, with everything else giving me a hint of something more. Nicely done.

Looks to me like you are already on your way on getting the most out of it already.

This is stunning! Your DOF choice is perfect! I love seeing the fibers that make up all the little "baskets"! I think you are off to a great start with that lens!

Great point of focus that works well @ f/5 Sandy.
Like the framing/comp that puts the focal point right where ya want it too

Nicely composed, very interesting lines and shapes. Do wonder how this would be in a square format? Enjoy the new lens. Thanks for sharing.

Really well done, Nancy. The trick in a shot like this is selecting the DOF, POF and where to put the POF in the frame. Your choices are all on the money. No nits from me. I like it just as is. As for John's comment about the square comp, I think this has considerable merit as an alternate image - a two for the price of one. Great job. :toast:

Really wonderful image, Nancy. Love the pattern and light, wonderful comp. I wonder if it could stand a little cropping at the top?
That would keep our eyes focused on all the concentric circles. Regardless, it's a great shot. Enjoy that new lens!
