Calliope Hummer

I have had a lot of hummingbirds at my feeders in the past couple of weeks. After work this evening, I decided to try something different. I setup my camera with my 100mm macro, my Canon MT-24 Macro Twin Flash, and pre focused just off of the feeder. Natural background of shrubs and flowers. I triggered the camera using my remote radio release while watching from inside the house. This male calliope was one of the first guys to come in. Not common for my yard, so I was happy that he decided to provide a nice pose for me.

Techs:
Canon 5D Mark III
100mm Macro
1/100 @ f/10
ISO 400
Macro Twin flash, 1 head at 1/16 power, the other head at 1/32 power

Larger version also included.

Stunning! Color, detail and the 'frozen' wings make this special. Also, the colors in the BG work beautifully with the hummer. The bird does seem to be tucked up in the corner - if you have room, I might pull him down and to the right just a tad - very minor issue on a wonderful image.

Nice one, Keith. I get them here every so often too, but they don't stay long. You really caught this one just right. Well done! :toast:

I like the frozen action revealing the detail in the wings, and showing their relatively small size. Nice background colours too.

Great catch, interesting set-up Keith.
I wonder how many clicks it took to get it using this technique?
Beautiful & distinctive hummer, love the view - way to go :toast:
